 KIDSTRUCTION Student Design/Build Contest - KIDSTRUCTION, is an award-winning program that assembles teams of middle school students to design and build architectural models using only toothpicks, business cards, and glue. This year's theme will be exhibits for the new Tucson Children’s Museum. Judging by local members of the design and construction communities from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. with an Awards Ceremony to follow from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The exhibits will be on display at the Foothills Mall in the Sax Court after the Awards Ceremony until Sunday October 21 st. Contact Nancy Tom at 622-4506 for more information.

 Library Lecture Series – A variety of lectures will take place throughout the week at local libraries and will include topics on remodeling, dream homes, and maximizing living space. Contact Annette or Evan Cohen at 885-4455 for more information.


Keynote Speaker Friday, October 12 th - 4:30pm

As part of the University of Arizona College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (CALA) fall lecture series, Robert Harris, AIA of Lake Flato Architects in San Antonio, Texas will speak  at the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Building at 1130 N. Mountain Avenue in AME room 202.  This is the Bernie and Irma Friedman lecture, supported with a gift from Burns Wald-Hopkins Architects. Harris will be addressing sustainable design in several of his firm’s award winning projects, including the World Birding Center in Mission, Texas and the Government Canyon Visitors’ Center outside of San Antonio, Texas . This lecture is free and open to the public.

Sonoran Institute Reception
Join architects, city leaders and green building advocates for a reception at the award-winning Hotel Congress. Enjoy live music, drinks, and appetizers while taking in the 360 degree views from the top floor of the garage, where solar panels provide energy for the city-owned facility. Learn about the Sonoran Institute’s partnership to promote Building from the Best.


Southern Arizona Chapter AIA - 2007 Design Awards- Saturday, October 20th - 7:00pm- 9:30pm

The Fourth Annual Saturday Night Design Awards will be held on the patio of the Mountain Oyster Club located in the historic Stone Ashley Mansion. The Design Awards recognizes local architects for design excellence and celebrates Architecture Week. Sundt Construction Company, the contractor that built the original seventeen-room mansion for Miss Florence L. Pond in the late 1930’s, is a sponsor of the Design Awards Cermony. The Design Awards are not open to the public.

15 th Annual Architecture Home Tour - A highlight of Architecture Week is the 15th Annual Architecture Home Tour on Sunday, October 21st, featuring a selection of homes throughout Tucson. The tour will primarily focus on local residential projects that utilize "green" elements/aspects in the architecture.
