Monthly Meetings—The Chapter presents monthly
meetings with nationally recognized speakers such as Antoine Predock,
FAIA, Will Bruder, AIA, Michael Rotondi, FAIA, Lorcan Oherlihy,
AIA, and others. In addition, local & statewide presenters are
also scheduled, along with tours, an annual volleyball tournament
with the Society of Design Administration, and a holiday party.
PERSPECTIVE—The Chapter produces a regular newsletter
called PERSPECTIVE, which addresses issues such as
design, growth, planning, and the quality of life in Tucson.
Web Site—The Chapter has an active website on
the internet at www.aiasouthernarizona.org, which includes information about
the AIA, architecture, announcements, links, and other important
information.
Job Bank—A very successful Job Bank is located
on the Chapter Web Site. The Bank is interactive and members
can post their openings directory from their own office as well
as downloading posted resumes from those looking for
work.
Referral Service—The Chapter Office regularly
offers advice and counsel to those individuals seeking the services
of an architect. Referrals are handled through the Find an Architect
process on the Chapter Web Site.
Government Affairs—The Chapter promotes the placement
of member architects on City, County, and State Boards
and Commissions. In addition, the chapter monitors local legislative
bodies on architecturally related issues.
Insurance Program—AIA members may participate
in the group insurance program of The American Institute of
Architects Business Insurance Trust (BIT). Services include life,
health, disability, auto, and other insurance.
Awards Program—The Chapter supports the efforts
of AIA Arizona in its annual Design Awards Program and the
locally based Cornerstone Building Foundation, which annually honors,
among others, the Architect of the Year. In
addition, the Chapter hosts its own design awards program.
Homes of the Year - In conjunction with Tucson Lifestyle's Home
and Garden Magazine, the chapter sponsors an
annual Homes of the Year design awards program for excellence in
residential design.
Chapter Office—The Chapter maintains a Chapter
Office with a friendly and knowledgeable staff with over 30 years
experience in AIA issues. They are available to assist members with
issues that arise in the profession, the AIA, or
the community.
Just the Facts Please!—A regular
electronic communication is sent to all members by AIA Arizona,
the state organization of AIA based in Phoenix. Just the fax please!
is a one-page publication which keeps members informed about AIA
activities in Arizona.
The Reference Library–-The Chapter works in conjunction
with the Reference Library to host regular seminars
featuring manufacturer representatives who present programs on their
products and services. The Box Lunch
program is held on Thursdays at the Chapter Office and includes
a sponsored lunch.
University of Arizona College of Architecture
and Landscape Architecture—The Chapter maintains a close
relationship with the University of Arizona College of Architecture
and Landscape Architecture, its faculty and staff,
and the student organization, AIAS. Joint meetings, scholarship
programs, and mentoring are but a few of the
activities pursed by the AIA.
Professional Affiliate Membership—A form of
allied membership in the AIA is promoted by the Professional Affiliate
members, a group of professionals and individuals engaged in fields
related to architecture.
Professional Development Seminars—Professional
development programs are conducted on a regular basis to
encourage continuing architectural education. The Chapter maintains
a regular reporting process to AIA National for
